Composting 101: Turn Kitchen Waste into Garden Gold
By Anita Nair
Did you know that nearly 50% of household waste is organic and can be composted? Instead of sending it to the landfill, you can turn it into nutrient-rich soil for your plants.
What you need
- A bucket or terracotta pot with a lid
- Dry waste (dried leaves, cardboard, newspaper)
- Green waste (vegetable peels, fruit scraps, coffee grounds)
- A handful of soil or compost starter
The method
Layer dry and green waste in your bin, keep it moist but not wet, and stir every 3-4 days. In 45-60 days, you’ll have rich, dark compost ready for your garden.
We conduct free composting workshops regularly. Check our events page for the next session.
